Media

Media — images and other files — is either public or private.

Public media

Public media has a stable URL. It isn't listed in any public directory, so it won't turn up by browsing, but anyone who has the link can open it. The link stays valid as long as the media exists; removing the media from where it was shared doesn't invalidate a link someone already has.

Private media

Private media is limited to the people who have access to where it's shared — for example, the members of a space. It's served through access-checked links that expire, rather than from a permanent public URL.

Browsing a space's media

Every space has a media view that gathers its images, videos, audio, and files into one grid — whatever's been shared on the space's desktop, attached to posts, or sent in chat. You can filter by type (images, videos, audio, or files) and by where a file came from (desktop, posts, or chat), and each filter carries a count. You only ever see media you already have access to; the view never surfaces anything from a part of the space you can't reach.

Descriptions

Whoever uploaded a file can give it a short description — up to 240 characters — from the file's settings. The description is saved on the file itself, so it stays with the media.

Where it lives

Media is stored on cloud infrastructure operated by Metalabel, in the United States.
