Refunds & disputes
Getting a refund
Refunds are issued by the space you bought from — there's no self-serve refund button. If you want one, reach out to the space's admins; they can refund any purchase in full from their side.
When a refund goes through:
- The money returns to your original payment method (bank timing applies — usually a few days).
- Access is removed — group membership for a key, download access for a store purchase.
- You get a confirmation email.
- A refunded key stays visible in your wallet marked Refunded, so you have a record of it. A refunded store purchase leaves your downloads — the confirmation email is your record.
Canceling a subscription is not a refund — you keep access through the period you've paid for, and nothing is returned. See Keys & paid membership.
For spaces issuing refunds
Admins refund from the treasury's purchase list. Before confirming, the app shows exactly what the refund costs the treasury:
- Within the clearing window (about a week after the sale), the money hadn't cleared yet — the refund nets out clean.
- After clearing, the space's share of the sale comes back out of the treasury.
A refund that the treasury can't cover is blocked until the balance can absorb it. Refunds are always for the full amount.
Disputes
A dispute (chargeback) is when a buyer asks their bank to reverse a charge, outside DFOS entirely. Both the buyer and the space's admins are notified when one opens and when it resolves.
If the dispute is lost, the outcome looks like a refund — access removed, money returned through the bank — except it can't be blocked, so it can pull a treasury negative (see Treasury). If it's won, nothing changes and funds are reinstated.
