Paid membership & unlocks
Some groups inside a space cost money to join. When a group's access is set to Paid, joining means buying a product that unlocks it.
Paid access lives at the group level, not the space level. You join the space first (however that space lets people in), and from there some groups ask you to buy your way in.
Buying your way in
Open the group and pick one of the products that unlocks it. A product can be offered a few ways:
- One-time — pay once, keep access. A one-time product can also be free to collect (no payment, your membership lands right away) or pay-what-you-want, where you name your own price above the group's minimum (which may itself be free).
- Subscription — monthly or yearly, renews automatically.
Some products offer several prices; you pick the one you want. Payment happens on a Stripe checkout page, and your membership lands moments after you pay — a free product skips checkout entirely. You can't buy something you already hold.
More than one product can unlock the same group, and a single product can unlock several groups at once — so what you're buying is the product, and the access comes with it.
Everything you buy lands in one place: Wallet → Purchases, where each product shows its downloads, what it unlocks, and its receipts.
A product that unlocks a group can also be sold from its own public page, which means someone can buy their way in without being a member yet — the purchase seats them in the space, even when the space is otherwise invite-only. See The shop.
Managing a subscription
To cancel a subscription, leave the group. That stops the renewal — your access continues through the period you've already paid for, then ends. If you change your mind and rejoin before the period ends, your subscription picks back up — no new purchase.
Leaving only affects renewals. One-time access isn't given up by leaving — if you bought your access outright, you can leave and rejoin freely without paying again.
Billing & invoices in your wallet opens your Stripe billing portal, where you can update your card and see your invoices.
A few things worth knowing:
- If a renewal payment fails, you'll get an email asking you to update your payment method. If it keeps failing, your access ends and you're told by email — you can always re-subscribe later.
- Every renewal gets a receipt. You get an emailed receipt when a subscription starts and again on each renewal. Invoices are always available in the billing portal too.
- A space can end a subscription too. Admins can cancel a subscriber's renewal from their side; access still runs through the paid period.
Granted access
Admins can also grant access outright — free, no billing. A grant lasts until an admin takes it back or you leave the group; unlike access you bought, it doesn't carry across leaving, so rejoining takes a fresh grant. Access you paid for can't be revoked out from under you (see Refunds & disputes for the one exception).
